An Artist’s Reference Photo Library
Please enjoy this collection of random photos of the magnificent PBY I have collected throughout the internet over the past few years. My purpose in gathering them is to provide reference material for my own original paintings and drawings. (And because it’s such a cool airplane! Probably my all-time favorite.)
If you’re viewing this website on a desktop computer, you will see the fantastic amount of detail that is now visible. I’m a stickler for detail and in my experience, this website view is the way to go!Â
In the past, I’ve had only printed photos to work from, and mainly those were 4″ by 6″ or even smaller; very frustrating.Â
I do not claim the rights to any of these photos except for the one of my dad’s CF-IZU, presumably taken at my father’s World-Wide Airways hangar at Dorval airport (near Montreal, Quebec) by his old friend, the distinguished Canadian aviation historian and publisher, Larry Milberry.Â
The others are the result of my hours of hunting for decent reference material. Some are screenshots grabbed off documentaries.Â
Hopefully I’m not in trouble for sharing these valuable moments in aviation history! My main goal is education. More people deserve to know about the Consolidated Catalina PBY and its important contributions to peace and freedom all over the globe.Â
